Helping someone remotely
This page is for you, the helper. The person you help installs Kultivat Assist. Remote support is in development; Linux comes first.
One-time setup: your relay
The two apps cannot find each other directly because both sit behind home or office routers. A small relay on your own server introduces them. Sessions are encrypted end to end; the relay never sees the screen. You need once:
- a server with Docker,
- a domain name such as
relay.example.compointing at it, - ports
80,443,3478and49160–49250/udpopen.
Then Settings → Relay: choose the server, type the domain and your name (the person will see it when you ask for access) → Install relay. The app does the rest and reports when it is ready. The first run takes a few minutes.
Helping a person
- Ask the person to start Kultivat Assist. It shows a 9-digit ID and a code.
- In Kultivat Remote open Support. Type the ID and the code → Connect.
- The person sees "Your name wants to see your screen — Allow / Decline". When they allow it, their screen appears in your tab.
- Click and type as if you were sitting there. Choose View only if you just want to look.
- Use the Chat and files panel to talk and send files. The person must agree to every file.
- End finishes the session. The person can end it too, at any time.
The code is single-use and expires after ten minutes.
Computers you look after regularly
When the person first allows you, Assist asks: Allow this person to connect without asking in the future? If they say yes, the computer is saved in your list and you connect with one click and no code. They can withdraw the permission later. This works only while they are logged in to their computer, and the "session active" bar still shows every time.
What the person is always shown
A bar at the top of their screen for as long as you are connected, with an End button. You cannot hide it.
